Turtles

Sea-dwelling turtles (Cheloniidae) are large, marine animals with long flippers. Most common species are the green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta), and the hawksbill sea turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata). The biggest turtle, the leatherback sea turtle (Dermochelys coriacea), is special because it is the only member of its family (Dermochelyidae) and has, unlike other oceanic turtles, no bony carapace, which gave it its name.

Marine turtles are culturally significant for many different societies and key animals for marine tourism as well as marine conservation.
